Georgian flanker sent off for kicking Irish player in U20s match

I'm kind of OK with the decision. I don't care how cool a name Ilia Spanderashvili is - and as names go it's pretty awesome - you can't just throw punches and kicks.

And yes, I do appreciate how bloody frustrating it is, especially if you're playing flanker, having some a-hole hold you down after the ruck has finished. There are better ways to deal with it though. For example, I remember a dude holding me down exactly the same way during a game. I said "come on mate, ruck's over", to which he replied (with a grin) "yeah, I know!" and continued to keep all his weight on me. I did not punch or kick him. I smiled back and called him a "cheating twat" and waited patiently for him to release me. On pretty much the next phase of play after this, the ball was passed to this guy and I immediately introduced his solar-plexus to the point of my shoulder. Totally legit and far more satisfying, I'm sure.

Hi Dubard,

Small clarification: no further punishment doesn't mean clearing the player; its confirming that the red card shown during the game was sufficient.

I didn't see the game live so can't comment on the rest of the ref's performance. Generally speaking I wouldn't anyway; that's for football fans.

The Chiefs score six tries to thump Wales in midweek match

1:23 is the highlight for me. Lock sidestepping an outside centre is a sight to behold. I wonder what the other *four* Wales tacklers were playing at but there was some very deceptive stepping all the way to the line from the big man.

England start series on a high with first ever win over Wallabies in Brisbane

I was going to do it anyway for a laugh, but will never get round to it.

James Haskell humble after smashing tackle on David Pocock

He's perfected the Brent impression hasn't he? Latest one with Farrell is 100% Brent:

James Haskell humble after smashing tackle on David Pocock

Yeah, after casually throwing out the phrase in my earlier comment, I started to question whether it was even a law or if I was just blindly subscribing to one of those "past the horizontal"/"didn't wrap his arms" types of colloquialism.

Confession time, I got my last paragraph about Law 10.4 (k) from here: http://www.rugbyrefs.com/archive/index.php/t-6934.html?s=303083a80c52e398f39308f1ab98fcee. Tried to pass it off as my own wisdom and encyclopaedic knowledge of the game, but the guilt is now consuming me... :)

The rugbyrefs discussion was based on a slightly different scenario, but the crux of it is really that "jumping into the tackle" is an offence mostly because it tends to lead to people getting flying boots in the noggin.

Anyway, that page is over seven years old and it seems the laws have been amended since then.
"Acts contrary to good sportsmanship" is now 10.4 (m).

10.4 (i) sort of applies (against Haskell) "Tackling the jumper in the air. A player must not tackle nor tap, push or pull the foot or feet of an opponent jumping for the ball in a lineout or in open play."

You mean like on pornhub? ;)
At least, I've heard they do something like that, apparently. A friend of a friend told me.

Anyway, I'll have a go at time-stamping this game for you when I get the chance, will be a pleasure.

Having said that, there weren't many "lowlights" to this game, it is well worth watching in its entirety if you get time.

You can watch the full game on youtube - at the moment anyway.

James Haskell humble after smashing tackle on David Pocock

"It might be my ageing eyesight but I can't see Pocock in contact with the ground so it looks like he was taken in the air"

I've had laser surgery on the eyes and I can assure you that the very tip of one stud of Pocock's left boot ever so briefly brushed against the end of a rogue blade of grass the ground staff had inadvertently left protruding slightly higher than the rest of the grass.

I mentioned earlier that you're not allowed to "jump into the tackle", which makes Pocock fair game to be tackled, whether he's touching the ground or, as I now realise in this case, not.

By the way, I can't find any specific mention of jumping into tackles in the Laws. I believe it's not allowed as part of 10.4 (k) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship, because in effect it stops the tackler from tackling the ball carrier legally.
