@oliver: At least some other countries have v strong preferences for home grown, if not formal NZ style rules. Eg For Ireland (where I live), if you ain't in the squad before you go abroad, you won't get into it while abroad. (Bowe and Sexton were in the team before going to Wales and France: Mike Ross wasn't in the team for years while in England, even thou Ireland were really weak in tightheads, similarly with many others in other positions)
(also Ireland were at their worst when the Irish players played in England - early 1990s)
Oz also show a strong preference - eg honeybadger in Japan -
But as a one off, I'd imagine SA would have been an asset, if brought in early - he's incredible.

here are the two codes in OZ compared (and other sports); Rules rules eh?
Player participation in League is 5 times higher in all codes (according to a broken wikipedia link!) in Oz https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_rugby_league_and_rugby_union#cite_note-autogenerated1-59
and here's a really interesting way to have a combo/compromise/hybrid game: attacking team plays league til halfway line, then union if they pass it. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/news/4994642/Hybrid-rugby-union-league-experiment
This is the time of year people often talk about a fusion of the two - it would become one massive cross-class sport if it did...Ireland would be fucked, and flankers would probably disappear - a pity as they are in many ways the most dynamic and interesting of players (and, the most leaguey in terms of physique)
Its impossible of course, compared to the Berlin wall coming down anyway.... :-)

Great clip - good to see highlights that weren't about the scores. Pocock will be a dominant force in RWC i reckon.

Great to see such a crowd for a D2 match - albeit an important one - shows the depth of the French leagues and player base.

sorry RD but I think you are giving him a serious benefit of the doubt there ...that comment what could probably be described as disgust at Pearce reacting like he did to the hit"," lays too much blame on the part of the player who was tackled, and who presented the ball! Had he not presented the ball ,maybe, but I can't see how anything could be construed as playacting? Especially when the time between tackle, ball placement and headslam was so short (even in slo mo).

Great to see him back (not great for Wales or England thou!)
and re breakdown: he's playing both the ref and the opposition - I'm sure he would have marginally adjusted his timing if the ref pinged him once...but as the ref didn't he carried on. Simples.

seems to be better at some things than he was in the past (eg handling, passing)
V physically fit also

re facebook and 'haters': facebook was killing the comment section here for about 2 years. People just commented over there instead.
A) useless for RD and revenue
B) lowered the tone for those of us who wanted to interact on RD, as RD Facebook isn't knowledgeable or respectful (that's a facebook thing, not an RD on Facebook thing specifically!)
However if some of those facebook ppl are starting to come over here and interact, that's fine. Probably only the more committed will, we need more traffic anyway, and it'll be up to us old timers to keep things relatively respectful. Innit.
