James Downey's huge hit on Mike Brown at The Stoop

Downey has always been a good solid 12. Does the hard yards and is strong in defence. Surprised he's not been involved in the Irish setup more often.

Ref Cam makes it's debut in the Top 14 with Romain Poite

The shots of him running behind the try being scored were superb. Getting to the running lines and support play was excellent.

Darren Dawidiuk banned for six weeks for tip-tackle on Dave Attwood

What absolute nonsense. Shouldn't be a penalty.

But as I've said before and I'll say it again. Don't. Lift. A. Player. There's absolutely no need for it. When a player hits hard in the chest and naturally lifts a player off their feet fair enough. But when they go for the legs and lift it's just so, so, so stupid. Now whether the resulting tackle should be a red card in my opinion depends on the extremety of it but the players should know that in this day and age it's going to be a red card. So why even do it.

In addition, I think Stringer should be banned for waving his arms around and appealing for a penalty. And Dave Attwood should be banned for his lying on the ground pretending he was injured. Get a grip. What happened to the days when a player would have got straight to his feet having been embarrassed that he got his ass dumped knowing that his fellow team mates would be slagging him off the rest of the week for having that done to him.

I'm hating the direction my beloved sport is going.

Sergio Parisse red carded and banned for insulting referee

It's such a strange one. I know I've sworn out loud when our team were playing poorly and at that moment Stade F had just let the opposition walk it out of the 22, so you can understand why Parisse would say something in frustration towards his team/under his breath.

Also the ref (unless there was something in the build up which we don't see) hadn't done anything during that phase of play to imply that Parisse would be angry at him and therefore direct the language at him. Also by the time the ref blows his whistle Parisse is 10m ahead of him implying he said it as he was running, perhaps unfortunately past him at the time.

Now the red card was handed out. And while he protested about this afterwards he did so off the field. I think his protests weren't too bad and I agree it probably demostrates his innocence - most people who get red cards know they do, or can understand why they get one that's why they're okay to walk off in silence and reflect on their mistake.

I also agree that he shouldn't be banned to play in the 6 Nations for an offence in a different domestic competition - it's not even as if his club is affliated with his national team (like in Scotland, Ireland and Wales). What a real shame.

Now of course. If he did swear at/insult the ref he total deserves a red card and a ban. But on what I can see it just doesn't stack up.

Also what a shocking try to give.

To be fair, he did call him Sir during his rant!

Seven week suspension for dangerous tip-tackle in U20 Six Nations

People moaning that he should get more than 7 weeks need to get a grip. He's a professional rugby player - being out of the game for 7 weeks is punishment enough and could, especially at this early stage in his career, prevent him from securing a new contract etc... The punishment fitted the crime. Stupid thing to do and he got sent off and banned.

And for those who keep going on about he could have been seriously hurt etc. you're right they could have been but they rarely are. The worst injuries I've seen/heard have come from collapsed scrums and legal tackles, I've rarely seen anyone or heard of anyone injured from a spear. (Appreciate I've left myself open to people who will have inevitably experienced the other but I'm willing to take that). Injuries usually come from accidents and we can't help that if you play rugby.

Cian Healy banned for three weeks for leg stamp on Dan Cole

Yes I would.

If rucking was allowed Heaslip woul dhave been ran out of that position but he wouldn't have dared to lie there knowing Youngs would have been running up and down his back. Simple.

If a player is cheating they get what they deserve - with the obvious expception of eye gouging etc...

Cian Healy banned for three weeks for leg stamp on Dan Cole

Silly thing to do. But raises a more important point. Players lying on the wrong side of the ball. They are deliberately slowing the game down, they make no attempt to roll away from the ball, watch Ireland and Wales they're very good at falling on the wrong side of a tackle and then not rolling away or just lying there with their hands up.

In the days when rucking (not stamping) were legal if you found yourself on the wrong side you did your utmost to get away because you knew what was coming. Take that fear out of the game you get people tempted to lie on the wrong side and the Nanny Staters coming on saying you can't put your boot on somebody, it might hurt them.

Now Healy did a stamp. Stupid thing and probably a Yellow Card offence today. But if rucking was legal, then Cole (and all future players) wouldn't be lying there to get that treatment.

Sonny Bill Williams goes the distance with Francois Botha

As posted on the Cooper video:

Can't say I'm a fan of pro rugby players pretending to be pro boxers. They're quite clearly in better physical condition than the amateur boxing opponents (or boxers who are quite clearly past their best!) chosen for them .

Boxing is one of the most technically gifted sports there is (despite the brutality involved) and people at the top of the sport train for months (if not years) for a single fight.

SBW and Cooper lack any real boxing quality and if they came up against any pro boxer of any quality they would be down and fast. As would a pro boxer who stepped on to the rugby field.

Don't mind people doing it as an exhibition or for charity etc... but to try and carve out this boxing persona is just embarrassing.

If SBW thinks he's the mutts nutts then why doesn't he step into the ring with somebody like Tyson Fury or even David Haye and we'll see how good he is!
