Midweek Madness - Referee stops counter attack when instinct kicks in

Ref wanting to get a bit of attention?

No need for him to almost stop to take the pass. By the look on the face of the player who threw the pass (which, although wasn't the best pass, could well have been caught by the NZ player), he thought so too!

Willie le Roux survives horror landing as Jason Emery sees red

Emery did jump.

He just jumped after Le Roux did and didn't get as high as Le Roux.

So we need players to practise synchronised jumping.

David Pocock suspended after choking Chiefs number eight

With hindsight, yes! But remember in the first few games of the world cup last year, the referees were as far as I can recall criticised for stopping the game too often to look at replays of what often ended up being nothing.

Ugly fight erupts between French and British navies in annual clash

I hope the props that were sent off weren't the Navy tighthead and the Marine loosehead. If you look in the background between about 0:05 and 0:10, they can be seen having a bit of a grapple but then seem to decide that they don't want to go there, so end up having a bit of a hug.

Unless they threw the first digs to set the whole thing off, they were a beacon of camaradarie.

Carlin Isles unhappy after being caught and hit hard by Augustine Pulu

Great hit.

Isles took the pass probably a couple of metres closer to the oncoming tacklers than he would have liked and got caught in three minds. After Pulu didn't commit too early to Isles first running line, it was an "easy" smash.

Agree about the afters. Not sure I've ever seen Isles say or do anything arrogant to warrant it, With that sort of pace, he could easily showboat/take the mick if he was that way inclined. But nothing wrong with having blistering pace and liking to use it.

I remember a clip of him bombing a try when he dropped the ball in the in-goal in a 15s game. Was just a simple mistake, but yet a load of comments on one thread (not rugbydump) about how he deserved it etc.

Put it down to envy.

Midweek Madness - Whiria Meltzer's incredible flick pass sets up great 7s try

That kick at the start was awful. Clearly shows the lack of basic skills at the amateur level in NZ.

Comparing the Jared Payne and Michael Rhodes cards for similar incidents

Agree entirely with first two paragraphs. He was knocked out when his head hit the ground (involuntary arms in the air), so not sure how quickly he could be expected to bounce back up on his feet anyway.

I'm an Ulster fan.

Awful spear tackle sparks huge brawl in French third division

Red 5 is itching for a scrap from the start. When the tackled player gave the tackler a bit of a "what the hell was that" shove in the face, it looks like it would have ended there. But, as DrG points out, red 5 gets involved.

For me, the trigger for it all properly kicking off is when red 5 shoves his hand (fingers?) in yellow 4's face (eyes?). Yellow 4 up to this point looks like he has been trying to defuse the situation. Yellow 4 gets angry and voilá.

England knocked out of home World Cup by outstanding Wallabies

It seems to me that Andy Farrell had a bigger say all along in selection (and likely coaching) than Lancaster ever did. I'm sure he out his foot down a few times, and Lancaster doesn't seem like a man to stand up to Farrell. The Burgess experiment went horribly wrong, and I can't see how that was anything other than Farrell having his way.
