Rod Davies finishes off brilliant 95m Reds try against the Sharks

Not only did Genia kick the grubber for the try assist, he also made the first hit to create the turnover and pinned two Sharks to the ground offside by threatening a pass to the right, thus contributing to the overlap. Class.

Richard Kahui's huge hit on Ben Tapuai in Hamilton

Stop looking for problems where there isn't one! Have you people ever played rugby??

Kahui has been on fire in the past few games.

Argentina and South Africa battle to a tense draw in Mendoza

Agree with Jon. SA's game suits Argentina. I watched both games last weekend and the speed of the NZ-AUS game is quite different, much faster. SA is particularly slow, at least they were in Mendoza and not much better vs. England.

Interestingly SA was slow vs Argies despite very quick service from Hougaard, who was dynamic. I somewhat disagree with Facepalm in this regard, Pienaar is very good no doubt but Hougaard was one of a few Boks who stood up in Mendoza (Alberts was the other one; Etzebeth and, yes, Krishner were solid, the rest was poor).

A lot of overreaction both from AUS and RSA after last weekend. Beating the ABs on current form needs a serious off-night from the Kiwis (eg. 2nd Irish test) or some serious niggling of McCaw plus an off-night for Carter (eg. Chiefs vs Crusaders semi). Australia not up for it atm, too many injuries and out of form players, not enough depth. But they are still a very good team, top 3 in the world for sure. They are really the only ones who match (or come within 22 points) of the ABs for the combination of speed, aggression, skills. But they just don't have the depth; or the passion right now after a tough SR season, and this may ultimately be Dean's undoing. He has done as well as he could hope with this team.

As for the Boks, the game plan is a bit too simple and not that well executed. Lots of turnovers when the ball gets to the backs, credit to the Argie backs, who are aggressive on defense and capitalize on isolated prey, but also shame on the forwards, whi need to. E more mobile. Ultimately though the problem is at the pivot, when the 5/8 offers no attacking threat and either passes or (mostly) kicks, the defense has a much easier time. Tough to blame one guy, especially one who is so reliable with the blame it in the Player AND the system he is asked to play.

Rugby Club Plays of the Week 2012 - Double Dose with Morty, Morty scorin

Probably because it was the last time anyone got into niggling McCaw since Cooper. I agree this was a different situation only in that it was a lot more deliberate and one-way than Cooper's, who can at least argue that McCaw gave him some undue fisticuffs. The Chiefs pushed McCaw around at least 4 times in the first half of the game, at the bottom of rucks, in lineouts, in loose play. They were clearly going after him. Surely nothing he couldn't handle; he is a big boy and this is rugby. But maybe it got him just slightly off his game and that was the difference.

Sonny Bill Williams off to Japan then returns to the NRL and Rugby League

No shame in doing whatever hell you want, challenging yourself, having a good time, and making as much money as possible during a short career, as long as you are not hurting anyone. I think the only ones hurt by this decision are those that hold old-fashioned ideas about sport, including rugby. Professionalism is here to stay, get over it.

Butch James banned for four weeks for dangerous charge against the Brumbies

I agree with Pretzel, if it is bad enough for four weeks then it is bad enough for a red. But a live judiciary hearing is not the solution, as it would slow the game down. Better to use the white for situations where something clearly happened but the refs missed it (e.g. a brawl or something unseen) and also give the judiciary committee ability to review any reported foul play, independent of whether it was picked up by the ref.

But most importantly just be consistent and transparent in the decisions!

Juan De Jongh's big hit breaks Ben Tapuai's collarbone

Not really a hospital pass, is it? To me a hospital pass is one that is so high that the receiving player has to stretch up to get it, exposing his rib cage to the defender. Something like that hit when the AB prop caught the ball high and Stirling Mortlock completely blew him up, knocking himself out of the game in the process. It must be somewhere on this site. THAT was a hospital pass. THIS was a great read, and a bit of that SA toughness, by de Jongh. Great hit. Unlucky Tapuai and Reds.

George North beats Alex Cuthbert to set up great Scarlets try

Too early to be talking about the Lions! It's more than a year away, in rugby terms this is a good bit of a lifetime! Surely there will be many more English players in the mix come spring of next year...
