Toulouse come from behind twice to snatch win over Castres

Moments of that were like a fifteen-man game of rugby sevens

Hosea Gear's big tackles against the Crusaders

I've never understood why he isn't a fixture in the All Black starting line-up.

Morgan Parra vs George Chuter, and Manu Tuilagi simultaneous yellow

Blaming Rolland for a call that his English linesman made?

Morgan Parra vs George Chuter, and Manu Tuilagi simultaneous yellow

Can't blame Rolland for a call his linesman made. Chuter probably didn't deserve a yellow for that (certainly not high) but if you watch the slo-mo from 2:06 it's clear that he wasn't committed to tackling Parra before the ball had gone, his head was up and it was a fairly cheap way to get one over a player he'd just been fighting.

Manu's yellow is totally uncontroversial. No bad intent but round the neck and plenty dangerous.

Highlights from days one and two of the 2011 South Africa Sevens

Frank Halai and Declan O'Connell need to be seen in Super Rugby.

Afrika's try against France was something else. Tied Bouhraoua in knots there.

Jamie Roberts big tackle on Berrick Barnes & Gethin Jenkins clearing kick

In that situation I'd say "using his brain" would have been passing to Mike Phillips, who had two more backs outside him and no Aussie defender closer than ten metres to the touchline. It was a perfect counterattacking scenario.

Matthew Morgan salvages a draw for Ospreys against Treviso

I think the ref got it right in that situation. To me the fact that Williams alighted safely was more to do with the Ospreys outside centre Andrew Bishop holding him up by the shoulder and preventing Benvenuti driving him down. The tackle itself is pretty terrible - look at 2:04, he upends him completely - but Williams was never actually dumped or thrown to the turf thanks to Bishop's efforts. Bishop may have saved Benvenuti from a red there.

Steven Shingler red carded for spear tackle against Cardiff Blues

I think with the Warburton tackle, a lot of the whiners would have set a specific limit at whether or not the tackler is Welsh and playing in an important game.

Steven Shingler red carded for spear tackle against Cardiff Blues

That Chabal one was obviously just a wrong decision. Perfect tackle. Not much to do with lifting players there. Plus it was a long time ago, I haven't seen one of those given in recent years.

God I'm sick of commentators whinging about this. You lift a player in the tackle, you take the risk of a red card; what is so difficult to understand in that? How often do you see the best tacklers in the game (McCaw/Pocock/old Chabal/old Lima) take players off their feet? Virtually never, because they're aware of the risks involved. The rule is not changing any time soon, and rightly so for the safety of players, get used to it.
