Connacht snatch win over Wasps after new law directive calamity

Basicly I don't have a problem with this outcome. The penalty happened before time was officially up and the whistle sounds before the clock turns red. On the other hand so much illegal stuff seems to be going on at the resulting maul, including blatantly coming in from the side (although that might have something to do with the camera angle) that I don't understand how the try was given anyway.

Nevertheless the referee should be up to date with the laws at all times.

Player banned after filthy off the ball tackle on female referee

Have to agree with you, Tetley. This kind of tackle on a person that's not even expecting physical contact at all (since she's a referee, not a player) is so dangerous that I wouldn't have any problem with a lifetime ban.

Dylan Hartley facing another large ban after knocking out Sean O'Brien

I am a littlebit surprised that I somehow actually managed to feel sorry for Hartley. No idea where that came from and I guess I am the only one.

George North free to play after sickening landing worries fans

I guess the problem here is that, while the ball is still airborne, Thomstone decides to go for the tackle instead of going for the ball. If it was a fair challenge for the ball with the same outcome (North knocked out cold) probably no sanction would have been given. The moment he decides to become the tackler he is responsible for the safety of the ball carrier.

Don't get me wrong: I don't like this jumping into a tackler. At all. But the laws don't really cover this aspect unless the action is unsportsmanlike or unsafe. And since North jumped for a ball in the air I don't think you can argue it was either unsportsmanlike or unsafe.

Six Nations set to introduce trial Bonus Points system in 2017

I especially like the 3 bonus points in case of a Grand Slam, thus garanteeing that the team that beats all others will definitely win the championship.

Okay, I should read all comments first before I respond to an older comment. Excellent piece!

With the penalty count 3 times as high and 2 or 3 yellow cards, I would definitely not say the referee turned a blind eye. I mean...he did penalize them...3 times as much. Besides this you have to remember penalizable offences take place all over the field and only part of the penalties are for foul play.

As for the Barret try: I think the Irish were a bit lucky there. If a try had not been awarded, the ref could have awarded a penalty try for a high tackle and foul play preventing a try should be accompanied with a yellow card or sending of (if I remember the laws correctly).
