Referee Angus Gardner dissects controversial mid-air contest rulings

A bit unfair to say there's a disconnect of opinions between players and rugby authorities based on an interview with two of the many thousands of professional players out there. And even if there is, it doesn't make World Rugby wrong. The current rate of knockouts can't continue. Realistically, the game isn't being drastically altered either. Let's not get carried away.

Referee Angus Gardner dissects controversial mid-air contest rulings

I'm struggling to see what's so ambiguous about World Rugby's directives surrounding the high ball. Players have to have a duty of care to those in the air. Hoiles' opinion is so moronically dangerous.

Nicolas Sanchez banned for dangerous challenge after only being penalised

Was Sanchez ever in a realistic position to compete for the ball?

Steven Luatua banned for 4 weeks after tackle on Tim-Nanai Williams

I quite like the high ball ruling being used vis a vis hips above shoulders

Steven Luatua receives straight red card for dangerously high tackle

Apart from Nanai Williams head butting Luatua's forearm, can we also admire the glorious break from Kerr Barlow. Absolutely untouched through the defence

Italy ruck tactics bemuse England and agitate coach Eddie Jones

I saw an interesting tweet saying that Italy's tactic should be viewed as the greatest compliment anyone has ever paid England since the 2003 World Cup

Ross Moriarty's thumping late hit on Owen Farrell in Cardiff

Call me a one eyed Englishman, but Moriarty only really begins to accelerate after the ball is gone. He deliberately commits to a man without the ball. Lawes is accelerating the whole way and is committed to tackling a man in possession of the ball. Both players had the intent to hurt, but only one of them carried it out in a legal manner.

2017 Six Nations: Best of social media from Round Two

Agree with Greenwood. Moriarty was making a serious physical impression around the park (not that I wan't to condone his cheap shot on Farrell). It's early days in his career but he looks to suit the modern game very well. It's a massive, massive loss for England that he chose to play for Wales.

France's Caroline Boujard cited after reckless mid-air tackle

I would say that jumping for the ball means the defender has to check before they make the hit, meaning you're less likely to get clattered (wo)man and ball as you catch it (unless you get clattered in the air that is)
