Scotland claim first victory over England since 2008 in epic match

The Underhill challenge can't be a yellow. There have been some examples where players lead with the shoulder and hit the opponent so hard that they bounce off before they can wrap their arms. Here the opposite happened. Underhill led with the shoulder (because, what else are you to lead with?) and clearly went to wrap with his right arm, but the considerable force of three chunky Scotsmen sent him flying back before he had time. His left arm is blocked from wrapping by Williams flying in with no arms. And in fact, if anyone should get a yellow here it should be Williams for his reckless no arms chop. So Owens probably made the right decision but for the wrong player

I'm also not sure what's more irritating: the Scots attempting to coerce Owens into giving a card or the fact that it worked.

Johnny Sexton's last minute heroics hailed as 'inspirational' by Joe Schmidt

Certainly a disgrace, but there's no need for a head-jerk reaction

Proof that Lima Sopoaga leaving is a massive loss to New Zealand rugby

"The move will cause ripples with Wasps as the question now becomes what to do with mercurial star Danny Cipriani."

The way understand it, Cipriani is expected to move to France next season as he's accepted he's not going to play for England. I guess this makes the decision for him.

Clermont debutant Samuel Ezeala recovering in hospital after brutal tackle

So many sickening head injuries since players became freakish balls of mass. I like the calls to reduce the number of substitutions a lot. I think that would definitely make players lose mass to make the 80 minutes. I would personally like it if tactical substitutions were banned altogether. And I can see this happening in the not so distant future.

I also know from personal experience that steroids are a very real problem. Players taking them to put on superhuman size before going pro so they don't get tested. A dark aspect of our sport that gets little attention (and can't be good for player welfare). This needs to be looked at.

Either way the rugby world would do better to engage more seriously with Allyson Pollock's concerns. Ironically, the person who is trying to destroy rugby could ultimately save the game we love.

What happens if the Super Rugby knockouts are tied at fulltime?

The Lions could have done with this given Barrett's bockety boot

Sarries claim back-to-back European titles after beating Clermont in Cup Final

The try at 10:23 is an absolute classic example of Chris Ashton defending. Whenever he can he will show the attacker so much space up the outside channel. By not closing the defender down he turns a 2 on 2 into a 2 on 1 and Farrell, backpedalling, never stood a chance. I find the commentators who said he should have been in the Lions squad utterly absurd. I'd rather have Ayoola Enrinle in my side.

Fantastic match all the same.

Ma'a Nonu back to form with brilliant individual try against Toulouse

A nice step at the end, but the whole thing looks like a game of U11s, where the kid who developed before everyone else could cut aimlessly back inside and barrage his way to the try line.

Referee Angus Gardner dissects controversial mid-air contest rulings

A bit unfair to say there's a disconnect of opinions between players and rugby authorities based on an interview with two of the many thousands of professional players out there. And even if there is, it doesn't make World Rugby wrong. The current rate of knockouts can't continue. Realistically, the game isn't being drastically altered either. Let's not get carried away.
