Wallabies bounce back with strong second half vs the Springboks

Terrible first half, good second half from the Wallabies. Can't help but think that if the Springboks were in a better place (their ususal place) they'd have thrashed the Wallabies.

What was up with the kicking? So many terrible kicks, especially in the first half. At first I was sure that it must be a tactic that the coaches instructed the players to use, but they seemed angry with them as well at half time. If Barnes doesn't stop kicking away posession he should be dropped. Getting into a kicking contest with the boks is among the dumbest things you can do in rugby..

At least there were some positives in the second half, when they finally started running the ball and getitng over the advantage line. I was also very pleased with the forwards, who did a fantastic job against the springboks pack.

I was also impressed with Cooper's defense at 10. I didnt see him miss any tackles (could still be that he did though), and was generally happy that he can finally defend the 10 channel.

The injury toll is getting worrying though.. Now with Genia out for the rest of the season and Timani out for next week, they'll have to replace about 8 or 9 players that would usually be in the starting XV. If the Pumas play another game like they did against NZ the aussies will be in trouble.

Eben Etzebeth banned for attempted headbutt on Nathan Sharpe

Seems pretty harsh to ban him.. Nothing happened.. If the ref didnt pick up on it during the game just forget about it. Even if the ref saw something I don't think a card or even a penalty should have been given. Just tell him to calm down and not to do it again
Etzebeth should try to keep a cooler head though.

The Rugby Club Plays of the Week - Rugby Champs, Shute Shield, & ITM Cup

The plays of the week is not done by rugbydump.. They are not responsible for the content.. If you want to blame anyone, blame FOX Sports.. I agree with you that it would've been nice to see a bit more from that game, but they didnt include all that much from the internationals anyway.

Btw, rugbydump uploaded the highlights a day or two after the match took place.

The All Blacks retain the Bledisloe Cup with convincing win over the Wallabies

I thought the yellow as fair enough.. He was on the ground off feet, offside and knocked down a pass.. That's 3 infringments. Add to that that the All Blacks had an overlap going for them and the Aussie defense was completely disorganised, I think Genia knew exactly what he was doing and deserved a yellow for it.

The All Blacks retain the Bledisloe Cup with convincing win over the Wallabies

I agree that one shouldn't call for a coache's dismissal too early, and there has been plenty of that going around in Australia over the year. Personally, I've never seen the need to get rid of him until now. The main reason for me to chuck him is that the Wallabies seem to have gone backwards in the last two years. They never managed to play consistantly (hardly ever, if ever, winning more than 3 games in a row) under Deans, and right now they look an absolute mess. Add to that some weird selections (why is half the team from the Warrathas, who've played absolute shit this season, while you have only 2 Brumbies? Why not more Reds? Why does he stick with players like Faingaa or Horne, who just don't aren't up to test level?
And my final reason is the game plan that the Wallabies have. Now here I'm not sure how much of it is Deans' fault and how much the players. But from what I heard the Wallabies literally always kicked away possession as soon as they had it. Then Barnes moved into first receiver, when Cooper's there. What's the point of having Cooper on if you're not gonna give him the ball in attack? It's the only aspect of the game he's good at.

Just for the record, I'm not saying that once Deans is replaced with someone else the Wallabies will beat the All Blacks in Auckland the next day. I'm just saying that I can't see any progression under Deans in the last two years and would like to see another guy (ideally Ewen McKenzie) given a shot.

The All Blacks retain the Bledisloe Cup with convincing win over the Wallabies

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) I missed the game.. From what I heard though the All Black's were about 50 times better.. It's telling that in a 6 minute highlight reel there's only one wallaby chance featured.
I wonder though, did the All Blacks only score one try because they messed up the final pass, or was it good defense from the Wallabies? (I'm desperately looking for positives).

It makes me question if Deans should be kept as the coach. It seems to me that the Wallabies have gone backwards in the last two years.. I was very optimistic at the end of 2010 for their future with them having quite a bit of young talent in the likes of Pocock, Cooper, O'Connor, Beale etc. It seems to me though that right now they're a team that has no clue what they're doing (at least when playing against the All Blacks)... Maybe a different coach (Ewen McKenzie??) could give the team a new spark..

All Blacks take the lead in opening Bledisloe Cup clash vs Wallabies

I agree with you about the upcoming game. NZ will probably win it easily. On the other hand, Australia always preform best when there's no expectation that they'll win and when they're under fire from the press. Add to that an improved backline with Faingaa gone (although I'd prefer Beale at Fullback and AAC moving into Centre to also get rid of Horne), I'm expecting a better performance from Australia than last week.

I'm also very interested in how Hooper does in replacing Pocock. I'm sure he'll play out of his skin and might provide a bit of x-factor because he's never played against the all blacks before and is thus a bit of an unknown for them as well. On the other hand, lack of experience could backfire. Good to see though that Moore is playing instead of TPN..

All Blacks take the lead in opening Bledisloe Cup clash vs Wallabies

I do remember a massive amount of whining in some of the English newspapers comments. I remember reading the guardian and another one the name of which i can't recall. At least in the comments there were loads of people whinging about Craig Joubert in particular and generally about the Aussie-Welsh games. There was also some whining about the 2nd NZ-Ire tests.

I also remember the Welsh coaching staff having a bit of a moan about Pocock supposedly getting away with too much. I'm not sure anymore if the articles in the English newspapers were also complaining about the refs, but it's possible.

On rugbydump most people were fairly gracious in defeat and victory though ;)

I think the reason he didn't play AAC at inside centre is because he doesn't think Mitchell or Turner are fit to play test rugby yet. That said, I agree that he should play Mitchell and place AAC in the centres and get rid of Faingaa or Horne (or ideally both by getting Cooper back).
