Heineken Cup 2013/2014 Best Tries - Round 1

There were some outstanding tries scored in round one of the Heineken Cup, so as we're into week two with another jam-packed Saturday and Sunday of European Rugby, here is a look back at some of the best of from last weekend.

We featured the Dion Berryman magic act earlier in the week, and Toulon's great try against Glasgow Warriors, but there were many others that are well worth watching.

We'll get more tries up from the latest round early next week, but if you spotted anything else that you think should be featured, please get in touch by placing an official request or dropping us a quick tweet or email. Which was your favourite try from Round 1?

Painful as a quins fan, but some beautiful rugby there!

@2:28 (ish) the commentator in the Scarlets game says ''they bought it hook line and sinker, to continue the fishing analogy''..... this is hilarious to anyone who can remember the preceding minutes of the game lol

As English as I am, I do love to watch the Scarlets. Great tries!

One point though: 2 of the 3 Scarlets tries in the clip came from loose kicks from Harlequins. For many years now I've noticed that aimless kicks/up and unders and so forth have been a blight on the English game, and I'm surprised less people have picked up on it. One of our biggest problems in the 6N 2013 was Youngs' absolutely awful box kicking giving away possession cheaply. Kick-chases can work when done well, but mostly when England/English teams do it it's aimless, with no chase and the opposition has plenty of players behind the ball to receive it and run it back.

So genuine question: why do teams do it?

Surely Scarlets are the most beautiful rugby team to watch in this competition. Sheer class! And this is from an Irish fan! Some great tries in there, love H-Cup rugby!

I think this video just goes to show the increasing quality of northern hemisphere rugby. The previous gulf in quality of the H-Cup and Super Rugby is diminishing every year. Only a good thing for our sport. Some absolute stunning tries in there!

At 4.53 just after Matawalu had scored the try and jumped up to celebrate, did the Toulon player - seemingly Delon Armitage - actually shove him? It's hard to tell from the video but that's the only conclusion I can make. If so, what's his problem?

Does not look like a shove to me.

Great tries, especially Scarletts ones.

I'm not a Scarlets man but I love that backline. With North leaving and excluding JD in the centre they're not exactly the bosh merchants that many teams seem to favour. Let's hope they carry on playing like that, other teams take note and we see a return to skill and not just size!

Do Racing Metro have their names on their butts?
