Rugbydump chat with Harlequins & England captain Chris Robshaw

Following the questions that the RD community submitted via our Facebook page, we sent Dave along to have a chat with Chris Robshaw to see how he is enjoying the season so far, and find about more about his nutrition, views on the game, and goals and ambitions for England and the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour.

After their succesful Aviva Premiership winning season, Harlequins captain Robshaw has said that 'Quins aren't feeling the pressure as such, but want to just keep improving where possible.

"Of course we don't want to rest on our laurels. It's about working on what didn't quite go so well last year and how do we improve on the positives we had," he explained.

"We were the tenth worst team in the Premiership for discipline, so that's a massive area of the game we can improve and if we can cut out the number of penalties we give away obviously it gives teams less possesion and more chance of us winning games."

Chris also touched on how much he can squat, the extended TMO laws, and the balance of England's backrow currently. We'll be giving away a new Canterbury England jersey soon, signed by the skipper himself, so keep an eye out for that over the next few weeks.

Seems like a pretty on to it dude. With Maxi-muscles too! Man they eat like horses.
Can you imagine raising the Whitelocks, all four of them, now playing (although I still believe not all at once) for the Crusaders.
I remember their Mum was quoted "Thank God we live close to the supermarket".

Or as the late great Bill McLaren would almost definitely said of the Whitelocks: I wouldnae like to see these laddies' family meat bill.

How to improve ......................... obviously too tough a question for the England captain.

I'll help you Chris

Here's why rugby is failing .........
Most rucks mean no real contest
Then 11 attackers, are facing 14 defenders when the ball comes out
Result = defences are king
solution creat/commit more people to the 'possession contest'
moving everyone back 5/10 meters will only increase the impact collision & increase injuries.

ps... for me, in the 1990 - 2005 era was more enjoyable to watch than the modern multi phase possession spectacle

It's slowly turning into a league hybrid, unfortunately. Thanks to all these stupid law changes in the name of "entertainment".

what about allowing hands in the ruck or players on the floor to play the ball - breakdowns become a legitimate competition for the ball, encouraging defending teams to commit more players, and negates the hopeless reffing we are starting to see.

just a thought xxx
