Rugby Finals Day Results update

Rugby Finals Day Results update

It's finals day around the world as domestic competitions come to an end with a few massive match ups taking place. All games have now finished, so here's the results.

Bulls vs Stormers - Super 14 Final
The Bulls beat the Stormers 25-17 earlier at Orlando Stadium to win their second consecutive final, and third Super 14 title overall. Morne Steyn and Fourie Du Preez controlled matters once again, with Steyn kicking 20 points to add to Man of the Match Francois Hougaard's excellent try.

The Stormers, playing in their first ever Super Rugby final, scored through Bryan Habana and a late consolation try from Ricky Januarie, but the Bulls looked in control throughout as they went on to win back-to-back titles.

Leicester Tigers vs Saracens - Guinness Premiership Final
The Tigers also retained their title as they beat Saracens 33-27 in what was a pulsating game of rugby. A late try to Dan Hipkiss proved the difference after Saracens flyhalf Glen Jackson had kicked what looked to be the winning penalty with only a few minutes left.

"It was a fantastic game, real last-minute stuff," Hipkiss said. "We are never quite done, there's always a bit more to go. In a final it means a massive amount and credit to the boys for sticking in there," he added.

Treviso vs Viadana - Italian Super 10 Final
Benetton Treviso beat Viadana 16-12 in the final of the Italian Super 10 championship earlier today. Treviso won their eighth consecutive final, and their fifteenth in total.

The match coincided as the farewell from the Italian championship for both sides, as next year they will play in the Magners/Celtic League.

Leinster vs Ospreys - Magners League Grand Final
Ospreys won the Magners League earlier tonight with a 17-12 win away from home at the RDS. The Welsh region became the first team to win the league for the third time. First half tries to Tommy Bowe and Lee Byrne sent them into a commanding lead in the inaugural playoff final of the tournament.

Leinster came up with four penalties from Jonathan Sexton, but that was not enough as Ospreys' Dan Biggar converted the two tries and added a penalty, completing their clean sweep of away wins over Irish sides this season.

Perpignan vs Clermont - Top 14 Final
Clermont waited a long time to achieve their first Top 14 title, with ten defeats in as many games in recent times, but they came up trumps against Perpignan earlier tonight, taking the French championship 19-6 at the Stade de France.

"Bloody hell, it was time. We worked so hard," said Clermont number eight Elvis Vermeulen.

"It was three years of sheer frustration but every year we tried to come back stronger. Full credit to the players. We are going to have a good night," said coach Vern Cotter.

Full natch reports and highlights will follow over the next few days. If there were any incidents in particular you'd like featured, please post them in the requests section .

Great game, really open and exciting, despite their only being two tries.
Ospreys two tries were very good, Lee Byrne and Tommy Bowe going over the whitewash and Dan Biggar adding the rest of the points.

Jonny Sexton kicked four penalties for a Leinster side who failed to play to their potential until the last 20 minutes when the game really opened up.

must agree with xii...they where so boring...and the when the stormers attacked it was brilliant.

but please can there be some sort of campaign started to stop those annoying f*cking horns at the match's...all the time all during the match all you could hear was those horns and they where so annoying. and i know some people may say stop listening to them and concentrate on the rugby but i mean they where so annoying the whole way through the match. i don't mind people cheering on a team but there just stuiped!!!

What a day of rugby! :D Pretty rough of that first commenter to say he HATES the Bulls. If the goal of rugby is to win, what's so bad about the outmuscling the opposition then kicking the penalties? Oh and, scoring a great try. hmm, odd.

GP final was a cracker too. Amazing finish.

Saw a bit of the Magners final. Didn't look too exciting, but I'm glad Ospreys won. Congrats to them.

And congrats to Clermont! Finally :)

Great day. What a great sport we have to enjoy.

Clermont are going to win the Heineken Cup next year. You heard it here first.

gutted for saracens, the spent the whole of the second half working themselves into a position where they could win the game, finally get a chance infront of the posts and jackson nails it. then they just completely switch off with 90 seconds left...gutted

What a joke the Heineken Cup seeding system is, they put Leicester, Ospreys and Clermont in the same pool this season...

...and all three are the respective winners of their leagues.

Well, this was an awesome day for rugby. so many big time games. And my favourite teams in each tournament won, appart from the stormers :(. Clermont, well, finally, after so many atempts. Leicester was expected, such a powerfull solid team. ospreys could go either way. Tragedy for Stormers, though. They deserved this year to be their year, with the thrilling, hard rugby they are playing. Interesting team to watch in offense and defense

Clermont played with 16 men from play-off to final.
Clearly protected by refs decisions !

They stole Racing Metro, then Toulon, and the final refereeing was clearly blind with Clermont.

As this drop goal of Anthony Floch after they played a quick lineout that should have been for... Perpignan !

Even if Perpignan was translucid in this final.

Finally, they had to get it.

As did shameful Castres in 1993.

10 pizzas boughts, the 11th for free... Sad year for rugby.

^ agree with 3/4 centre

given the match, there's no way anyone should feel ashamed about who won the Brennus. Even if Floch's dropgoal should be an embarassing decision for French refereeing by now.
Brunel said it right after the match and I think he was honest, not just faking fairplay: Clermont really outplayed Usap and deserved the win.
Usap never played, spent the match kicking balls back to Clermont and Porical missed nearly all his kicks (2/6)! Apart from a really strong scrum and desperate passes during the LAST 2 MINUTES of the match, they didn't show a lot.
Usap fans can be disappointed, but only by how Catalans played.
Congrats to ASM.

Clermont didn't need the ref to win, they were fortunate though that Jerome Porical missed 4 kicks out of 6. If he had been as accurate as he was in last year's final, it would've been a much tighter game. There was no need worries that Clermont would choke again as it was the turn of Perpignan's kicker. He's a good player, he'll be back.

Clermont with all their money and their huge squad really have underachieved in recent years though. They definitely should have beaten Leinster to set up a semi with Toulouse. Now that would've been interesting.

Anon about H cup seeding. I don't know how you can say that as nothing has been done yet. Only the hats have been decided, not the draws... Maybe you should try and get proper information before criticizing.

He's talking about 2009/2010 pools and he's right, the 3 major leagues winners were in the same pool.
As Toulouse and Cardiff, the 2 european champions were in the same pool.
