Jamie Heaslip cracking hit on Bernardo Stortoni

Jamie Heaslip cracking hit on Bernardo Stortoni

Leinster beat the Glasgow Warriors 36-13 in the Magners League on Saturday, scoring four second half tries which should give them some much needed momentum and confidence ahead of their upcoming Heineken Cup semi-final meeting with Munster.

Glasgow were looking good in the first half, leading 13-8 at halftime after tries from Kelly Brown and Lome Fa'atau.

The second half was a different affair though as last seasons Magners League champions pulled clear after tries by Shane Horgon, Jonathan Sexton, and two for Sean OBrien.

In the first half Leinster and Ireland number eight Jamie Heaslip put this excellent hit in on Glasgows fullback Bernardo Stortoni.

The new Lion timed the chase perfectly and smashed Stortoni as he landed from taking the high ball.

It was an excellent hit that resulted in the turnover, and then the penalty.

Hopefully he'll be doing the same on the lions tour.

Yeah, he was pawing at the ball while still on his knees and all...but he didn't grab it until back up on his feet.

...interesting way to win a ruck though, ass-backwards and all.

That was definitely a very nicely-timed hit, too.

Is there anyway that Stortoni could've avoided that?

Maybe duck as he was coming down?

Most likely inevitable though lol

Jesus anyone see a leinster player smash that guy alongside the ruck with his arms in the air? That was brutal, total cheap shot.

I don't know what that anonymous eejit was on about - textbook tackle, never touched the ball until he was on his feet. The penalty was FOR leinster you twerp....

The guy bashed at the side of the ruck was a bit borderline - but you can't be hanging around offside like that on the side of rucks

Wonder if our anonymous friend is from Munster?

"Now I noticed, the other fat bastard of Rory Best tackled a guy who even wasn't in the ruck like if he had the ball. Leinster are a bunch of fat fucks"

Get your facts right its Cian Healy, and there 9 was off side (and attempting to come in the side two secs earlier)... he got what he deserved!

The ruck had formed when Heaslip tried to pick up the ball, so he hasn't won the ball fairly as someone has tried to claim. Well timed, well executed tackle though and did well to follow it up.
The shot at the side of the ruck was a cheap shot and the guy did not "get what he deserved" as someone else claimed, the guy wasn't coming in from the side, he came round when the ball was beyond the back foot so it was perfectly legl for him to come round. Once he realised that a new ruck was forming he stepped back and put his hands up to signal that he was no longer involved in contesting for that ball. He was not bound and not fighting for the ball so it was an incredibly cheap shot. Some referees would have reversd that penalty.

Wow you come across as such an intelligent person, not ignorant at all.

Im really looking forward to more wisdom from you as you seem so well read and versed in matters of the game.

Rory Best is actually a very good player which i really dont get, and well one Irish team won the magners league last year another have it won this year, Munster won the Heineken cup last year and in 06. Munster and Leinster are both in the semis of this years H cup and Ireland won the triple crown, 6N and the Grand Slam.

So yeah Irish teams are all the same and the best in the NH at the mo. They have won all the major NH homours going over the last few years.

Come on Anonymous you must be English or welsh, i can smell the bitterness a mile away.

Glad other people spotted Heaslip handling the ball in the ruck (Note to stupid people, it is still illegal to handle the ball in the ruck even if you are on your feet).

When McCaw gets away with this shit he's hailed as the best cheater in the world. He was driven through the tackle point and the point where the ball had been placed, so he knew how it would look OK if he picked it up.
Play the ref not the rule book you anoraks.

Can't wait to see Quinlan's shenanigans on Saturday, anyone taking bets on him getting first yellow card.

jesus christ, the paddys don't half talk up their players.. It wasn't "brilliant" that he waited for the glasgow player to touch the ground before he nailed him, it was knowing the rules.. I think just they praise their players when they actually follow the rulebook.

To be honest it's pretty easy to smash someone half your size when you're travelling at full speed and the other guy is flat footed after jumping to catch the ball.

Having said that it is nice to watch though, i hope he hits like that playing for the Lions.

"I think just they praise their players when they actually follow the rulebook."

yup - the English should do the same since it happens so rarely these days - and in case you think I'm talking through my rear end I present in evidence the yellow cards and sin binning in the past few English games.

Irish rugby has rightly been disparaged over the years - but you cannot argue with success. current 6 nations, triple crown champions, holders of the heineken cup and the magners league. We've talked up our teams for years without substance... now we have the substance why should we start to talk them down?

Heaslip is a great player - it was a good hit and the handling in the ruck is a silly argument to be getting into as he was not penalised so the ref must have seen it differently (if he saw it at all).

Cian Healy took the guy out on the side of the ruck - and seemed to follow up with reckless use of the head if you look even more closely.... like he's the only one who has ever done that. must be an Irish thing....

Heaslip played the ball before anyone else arrived so that's not hands in the ruck silly people - until there's two people there (excluding the tackled player) then it's not a ruck and Heaslip is entitled to go for the ball.

And Heaslip did do well to slow down a bit before the hit you bitter English jackass. He judged the timing of his run well - many other player would've just charged into Stortoni and taken him out in mid-air.
