Gavin Henson Tackles 18 year old Matthew Tait

Gavin Henson Tackles 18 year old Matthew Tait

Matthew Tait was only 18 in this clip, and Gavin Henson was a young superstar on the rise - now he spends too much time in the tabloids, although he is cleaning up his act and slowly coming back to form.

Henson brilliantly nailed the young Tait all day, as this clip shows. A nice introduction to international rugby for the young Englishman.

Have you ever played rugby.I would assume not from that comment. Henson did exactly as any player would do if they were able to and if it was an english player doing it to a welsh player it would be a fantastic tackle but cos its the other way round its out of order. I'm english by the way.

Yeah.... you've never played rugby have you? Infact I'd say that Henson was a little kind there. He could have quite easily put Tait on his head instead he works him backwards well and lets him down.

what gavin did was very controlled. as someone has already said it was actually kind what he did, as gavin could have hurt tait quite badly.by not dumping him it actually had more of an impaact than it would have, had henson nailed him.

if u look at tait's body position u cn see why he gets absolutely owned and probably why stuff like that happened throughtout the match. in international rugby when someones 18 they aren't really very built or powerful so hu would'nt just love to have someone charge stomach-first into ur shoulder?

true, that guys hasnt ever played rugby, jeez every one knows that feeling when it comes to you like a smack in the face man. Its like being a little kid and some guy runs into you like that you have to do it. If i was in that position i would have smashed him on his back -hard, its good self control- true pro

not one of you has ever played rugby all you do is come on this site and bitch i play inside center and if ur defending your line why wouldnt u pick a player up...humiliation leads to definite defeat...know ur stuff before u comment none of you have a clue!..also who gives a fuck if henson is a nancy girly boy her kicks heads in on the pitch and that is what matters in the end not that any of you would know that u all spend too long looking at his legs u faggots

stuff your girly back position come play in the forwards, i guarantee you'd be "enlightened" heheh fresh meat for the grinder. i play 8 or l lock. Forwards do the hard work so you dont have too, and dont you forget it. Shows how much you know, If you were defending the line you'd keep him standing turn him round to face your team and drag him backwards as your buddies strip the ball and drive. Or you could wrap tackle him and roll him to face yourside you'd get a shoeing for being offside on the floor but it makes turnover. and why not leave your name. Fantastic tackle should have carried him further then smashed him into the floor tho, oh well.

p.s. great you smash him into the floor he can still play the ball back meaning he has the last laugh when his team run on and score.

Yer gwd tackles. Henson did the right thing. It's a competative contact sport. Driving somebody back in the contact isn't bad sportsmanship. I felt bad for Tait. England used him in the wrong way crashing up into a big guy like Henson when Taits strengths are his speed and agility.

I've checked his comment and made some changes to grammar and spelling :) I agree with H, smashing him into the ground may feel good but a good rugby player knows you can't win the game without the ball! Turn-over ball is the way forward. By the way tough guys leave their names!

what Henson did there was intimidate Tait you know for a fact if it was some1 like de Wet Barry, tana umaga, ma'a Nonu or jean devilliers they would have killed him i think tait is quite lucky he playd against wales that day, Henson was very and i say again very generous by not bereaking tait

I think people are wrong about gavin henson! as a player myself, i have a great deal of respect for him because hes a gd player and i understand how rare and difficult it is to be tht good. so what if hes a pretty boy, if i was as good as him on the field then id wanna look good! he gets so much bad press (and dnt get me wrong he doesnt help himself sometimes) but bye the bye hes a fantastic centre, hell even full back! it fustrates me because in comparison, football players do exactly wha hes doin and no one bats an eye lid! I think jenkins is a fool not to have him playing for wales as he is one of if not the best player wales has. (slight suggestion peel, hook, henson, shanklin, thomas, morgan.) any response?

Haha I remember this, I went to the same school as Tait(Barnard Castle School), and we were gutted seeing Henson do what he did. I agree with the othe person in saying England mis-used him.I think playing Wales was a wake-up call for him, he wasn't epecting to get a tough time.In the daily mail cup and other matches for the schools first team he just ran through almost every team, I doubt he was used to bit hits.

HenSon is the greatest centre the world as ever seen... say wot u want cause he would clean you anyday.... whoever sed he was a pretty boy i'd like to see him say it to his face... HENSON IS KING!!!!

I think this actually made Tait a better player, because when he finally returned to the England side early this year, and in the World Cup, he not only had a completly different hairstyle, he was a much better player...maybe this baptism of fire did him good? if it did well done henson.

Oh yeah im english btw and i say that was a fair tackle, one of the best id seen. It would have been out of order if he'd speared him but not only did he win turnover ball he completly embarressed Tait and knocked the confidence outta him.

Not that henson could ever do that to Tait now though, he was a young 18 year old thrown in at the deep end against an in form Wales team by a moron of a coach intent on wrecking the confidence of Englands finest young players, who then proceded to drop them for doddery old timers such as tindall who carve up against lower ranked teams such as Italy or Scotland. Tait would run rings round Henson nowadays!

if Henson is "King" then y the hell aint he on the pitch for wales... eh.. yea it was a good takle and everyone stop goin on about it... all u lot are doing is bitching at each other about it, get over it, its done, look at tait now he could outrun and outmaneouver henson anyday now. he its a proper rugby player he doesnt do dumb stuff like henson and he doesnt like seeing his face in tabloids, he plays rugby and trains hard

Sorry but am i the only one who reckons that guy should learn to spell? That isnt the first time Hensons carried a player is it? I think because he's got that little reputation for it he's more inclined to do it. On the other hand, the hit was strong and possibly saved a try. What more could you want?

How old is Tait now, then - because Tait is becoming a very good player, much more mature.

Henson is a great player. He may be a dumbass off the field but who cares about someone's personal life? He's class. Whoever asked why he wasn't in the Welsh team, just look at our coach at the time. Gareth Jenkins was dreadful and chose players on whether he liked them or not. Stephen Jones and Dwayne Peel over Hook and Phillips being a great example.

both players are great and the tackle was class no doubt about it, that tackle proves that not all backs are little nancy prancy girls that dance about, thats coming from a prop, and who cares what henson does off the field, he can kick and run better than any forward! as for tait i think he should have stuck to sevens for abit longer

"Gavin Henson Tackles 18 year old Matthew Tait"He ws only 18, but dont forget that the english media and especially guscott were hyping him up something stupid! They wee all saying how he ould slice up the welsh defence and score loads of tries, and gav brought him down to earth, quite literally with a MASSIVE bump!

and now henson has been suspended from the ospreys after missing some training sessions arguing with the coaches.. shame, he probably wont play in the autumn internationals because of it! ;(
